Sidney Hymes

2026 Candidate for Rondout Valley Board of Education

Sid Hymes is a longtime Marbletown resident and parent of two children in the district and a senior at SUNY New Paltz. He is a manager at the New York State Justice Center, where he has been involved in building and overseeing operations since its early years.

Sid is running for the school board to help ensure that Rondout schools remain safe, inclusive, and supportive environments for all students. He is particularly motivated by a desire to protect and strengthen policies that support diversity and ensure that every student – regardless of background or identity – feels respected and able to succeed.

As both a parent and a public servant, Sid brings a strong commitment to student well-being and a healthy school culture. He believes schools play a critical role in supporting the whole child and is dedicated to helping create an environment where every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to build their future.

Matt Nusbaum

2026 Candidate for Rondout Valley Board of Education

Matt Nusbaum is a lifelong Stone Ridge resident and a graduate of Rondout Valley High School, where he was deeply involved in student life – as a musician, athlete, student leader, and student representative to the Board of Education. This experience on the BOE gave him an early look at how school decisions are made and sparked a lasting interest in public service.

After graduating from Wesleyan University, Matt has continued working with young people through tutoring and local youth programs, and now works in public communications for Ulster County. Across these roles, he has focused on helping people understand complex systems and feel more connected to their communities.

Matt is running for the school board because he believes Rondout schools should be places where students learn not just academic content, but also how to think, grow, and find their place in our changing world. He is especially committed to ensuring that all students – including those from marginalized backgrounds – feel safe, supported, and able to thrive. He brings a fresh perspective, a deep connection to the district, a rare understanding of student life, and a belief in the power of schools to strengthen the entire community.
